What is an AIFF file format?

AIFF stands for Audio Interchange File Format.  Which is an Audio file format that is used my Macintosh computers to store and transmit audio data like music files in high-quality.  Apple Computer created the AIFF format in 1988.  AIFF audio files have the extension .aif or .ief.

AIFF files are an earlier generation “file format” that are uncompressed, making these files quite large.  MP3 audio files for example are smaller files that take up less disk space.  Because AIFF files are high in quality, they are excellent for burning to CD's.  AIFF files have been used by professional recording companies for many years.
