What is an AdWord?

The word Adword is most commonly referred to as Google Adwords.  This is a program created by Google that charges the client a fee to advertised their website or products.  You choose a phrase or word or a combination there of, that you feel best describes what you are selling or what your website is about.  You tell Google Adwords how much you are willing to pay (per day usually) Google will charge you (also known as PPC) everytime someone clicks on your ads.  Up to your set amount each day.  

For some people, this is a quick way to advertise what they are selling quickly.  But beware, paying too much can quickly add up to a hefty bill.  Thus cutting into your profits.  Note:  When doing a Google search, these ads appear ONLY on the right side of the page. 

A better way is to learn and use long term effective SEO practices.  The best place to be seen is in the main (center page) search results.  This is the first place our eyes focus on when a search is done in Google.  A good website that has been built on a good SEO foundation, will consistently and effectively come up in the top 5 (center) searches by Google.

Think of adwords as a "quick fix" for fast searches.  But beware of who you are competing with.  A website that spent the time to take good SEO practices in account will come up on "center stage", and these efforts will have cost the owner of the website NOTHING TO BE THERE!

The best practice is to use adwords for immediate traffic results, while working on optimizing your website for the long term.  Studies now show that if your website shows up on the first page of a search...AND your adword ad is off to the left, this gives confirmation to the searcher that you are a reputable, authoritative site!
